Former STL Ambush Head Coach Greg Muhr named to leadership positions at Missouri Soccer Park, Boonville Soccer Academy
Boonville, MO — Missouri Soccer Park has named former St. Louis Ambush Head Coach Greg Muhr as Park Director. On top of this position, Muhr will also take up the role of Technical Director for Boonville Soccer Academy. Through these positions, Muhr will oversee operations at Missouri Soccer Park and will facilitate growth for Boonville’s youth soccer club, Boonville Soccer Academy (BSA).
Muhr played soccer professionally for nine seasons, serving as a defender for the teams of Chicago Power, St. Louis Storm and the St. Louis Ambush. Following his professional career over the years of 1989-1998, Muhr moved into the realm of coaching at NAME. Now, he has over 30 years of experience coaching, most recently for the St. Louis Ambush.
The park, first opened in 2018, shares its top-of-the-line facilities with the top teams across the Midwest, such as MLS academy teams and the Olympic Development Program. Its location in Boonville, MO allows teams to meet in the middle at high-level woven turf and championship grass fields.
BSA was founded in 2010 and remains the town’s only soccer club, attracting players from many surrounding regions. They focus on player development, working with children as young as 8-years-old and training them through high school. BSA host tournaments and leagues in Boonville, bringing people from all over the state to the town. Since the opening of Missouri Soccer Park, BSA partners with the City of Boonville to oversee operations of the field and grow the soccer presence in the area.
Boonville Soccer Academy’s Executive Director and Missouri Soccer Park Technical Director Jimi Barbarotta is thrilled to welcome Muhr to the park.
“With his deep knowledge at every level, from pro to ODP to club to recreational, that’s something we haven’t had. Plus his deep contacts will make Mid-Missouri a hotbed for soccer,” Barbarotta said, “He’s a fresh face with new expertise that is going benefit the soccer community and all the kids in the club.”
Muhr is looking forward to pivoting his soccer focus to leading and managing the efforts of Missouri Soccer Park. Muhr was drawn to BSA because of its organizational mission and goals.
“I was drawn to the grassroots program that BSA has developed here in Boonville. It’s exactly as it should be,” Muhr said.
Muhr has big plans for the future of BSA and Missouri Soccer Park. He hopes to host more tournaments and begin hosting camps for youth players. However, Muhr’s ultimate goal to develop high level players.
“I believe we can get a national team player out of Boonville,” Muhr said, “We just need to fan the fire and continue mentoring players.”
Muhr hopes to continue meeting people and building relationships in order to get to know the environment and culture of the area. “I truly want to affect kids and make a difference in their lives,” Muhr said.
